We Are Talking To The Wrong People About Addiction [LXXVII]
Or… Making rules without empathy or understanding
The Drug Of War
On one hand, politicians will put their hand on their hearts to say that they have never done drugs (well, maybe there was that one time where they took the smallest of ‘tokes’ on a marijuana cigarette — but that was a long time ago).
Yet they will quite happily shout from the pulpit about how drugs are so very bad for everyone and must be outlawed.
There is, without a doubt, much evidence that drugs can be bad for you.
However, people will still take drugs, and these are the people that we, as a society and government must look after as well.
How they got to the state is immaterial — they are still part of society — so let’s start having empathy and asking them how we can help them.
I guess that we don’t consider women when we decide what they can do with their bodies — so this is probably par for the course.
