Things That I Tell my Daughter (and inversely, things my son can learn from)

Or… How society’s views are changing, and how I go about fighting those embedded influences starting from a young age.

TL;DR¹

I try to counteract all of the things that society repeatedly embeds into her, through the movies, books, the way people speak to her, the ways that those act around her. Inversely, most of these lessons are valuable for my son so that he has his expectations reset as to how he should act in society, and treat everybody.

Here are the main points:

- You don’t have to get married
- You don’t have to have children
- If they are ever verbally, emotionally, or physically abusive, you walk out the door
- A relationship is a shared partnership
- Always have a separate bank account

And on general life:

- Don’t ever comment on women’s appearances
- Talk about ideas, not people, or things

Relationship Life Lessons For My Daughter

Whilst these are the things that I say to my daughter, they are also good for my son to hear as well. To understand the expectations that I would have if/when my daughter chooses a partner, and also how my son should behave if/when he chooses a partner.
