TL;DR¹

Whilst I remember fondly playing board games with my family as a child, it is only recently that I came to understand the true value of board games. It teaches mathematics, logic, strategy, and fairness, along with being able to win or lose graciously. Furthermore, the games that I grew up with also contained life lessons, that were subtly embedded every time that I played the game.

And to top it all off it was an excellent way to spend some actual quality time with the family, away from any distractions like devices.

I recently came across an old Snakes and Ladders game which I played when I was young, and came across some hidden gems of life lessons which have helped shape my views and approach to life. In the current batch of board games, I no longer find these life lessons embedded within the game, perhaps it is time to review the way in which we teach our kids.
