Recipes Need A Better Format

Or… Why are we still using the same format for recipes in books, on the website and on PC/Phone applications?

I love cooking, it brings back such fond memories of my childhood. I was satisfied with the format in recipe books until recently

Why are we still using the same format for recipes that don’t seem to have changed since the beginning of time?

  • Is it because the current ‘standard’ format is the best? (You can see the ‘standard’ format of a recipe in the unsplash image above…)

Or…

  • is it because this is how it has always been done?

Time to challenge assumptions and update the format to make it more usable.

Recipe Books

I own quite a few recipe books, and I assume that I am not alone in only using a handful of recipes within each book.

Rather than flicking through recipe books for my favourite recipes, I copy them out to a sheet of paper, in the format that makes more sense to me. (At least I used to, now I am typing them out on a computer and automatically generating the recipe.)
