Personal Grooming vs. Societal Pressure [XII]
Or… Where to draw the line in the sand
Where Is The Line Drawn?
I am a firm believer it is better to be a good person, rather than to look good.
however…
Being well presented, and taking time and effort to be presentable does say something about a person.
However, especially when it comes to women, what does being ‘presentable’ mean? And when does society then push this meaning into an overly burdensome standard?
To misappropriate a phrase from Martin Luther King I hope that everybody
“will not be judged by the clothes that they wear but by the content of their character”.
My daughter was scolded by one of her friends at school for being a bit messy looking.
A while later she turned to me and said:
“I know it is about who I am on the inside, not how I look.”
Perhaps I am making headway.
