Headlines that have big numbers attract views — but you need to look deeper into the numbers to truly understand what is going on.

Percentages

Everyone loves big percentages and

700% is a big number.

The only problem with this percentage is that you need to know what the baseline numbers are —and it is from 1–8 people in a month.

That is not as impressive.

(And you know what — this is not true — I edited the number in the browser and changed the values.)

I got a 100% increase in my number of followers — from 1 to 2 — yay me!

So whilst headlines with big numbers will draw you in — be careful what they really mean.
