Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY)

There has been noise about access to data with TikTok and The USA.

After all, the TikTok data is held in China and people (the US government in particular) are worried about what information can be gleaned from all of this personal information and what the government will do with it.

Interesting…

Facebook is one of the biggest data collectors on the planet — but because it is based in the USA with their ‘stringent’ data privacy laws.

Some of these data privacy laws are based on getting warrants for data from Facebook.

Government agencies — such as law enforcement, FBI, and CIA — can get around these warrants easily by going through data brokers to get ‘anonymised’ information from targetted people and areas.

In Australia, we have issues with using Amazon’s AWS services for government clients as there is a clause which may allow the US government to access any and all data.

Way to go USA —data is sensitive, only if another country holds it and won’t allow you access.
