A Rose By Any Other Name

Changing a woman’s name to that of her husband dates back to when a woman became the property of the man (along with all of her assets and freedoms).

Now with the digital footprint that everybody leaves — why go through the extra trouble of changing that name?

I know of people where men have changed their names — Enlightened? Or still, holding on to an archaic practice of name changing?

As society changes, and the focus of people becomes what they do in their lifetime rather than their legacy for future generations. People want to keep their ‘brand’.

I would like to think that people want to keep their identity and freedoms

(Although this does provide challenges when travelling — you may come across outdated practices where, depending on a child’s surname, getting through customs without being accused of kidnapping becomes more problematic — just a thought.)
