The BIC Criterium —this is the latest model in a long heritage of mechanical pencils

The Pencil Design and Aesthetics

This is a classic design, dating back to 1939 and originally produced by Conté in a full aluminium model. The latest model from BIC is made of plastic, yet retains a metal nib, mechanism, and cap.

The pencil contains all of the features that can be found on any range of pencils, an eraser, a sharpener, and a clip, so you are all set to go to write to your heart’s content.

Aesthetically, the pencil’s design has not changed in almost 100 years, they have just updated the materials, it has a classic ridged grip which slightly tapers to the nib, giving a lovely smooth look.

On the clip is embossed the BIC logo, and on the side of the clip is the word ‘JAPAN’ — the country of manufacture. It is available in 3 colours — silver, black, and white, although silver is the most like the original namesake.
