Australians Are Only Friendly On The Surface

Or… Why visiting Australia is great on the surface — but please don’t dig deeper.

Australians are known to be a friendly, laid-back, and welcoming populace — and they are, on the surface.

Good times can be had by all — provided that you don’t ask for too much.

This Is An Actual Story

An English friend of mine who I worked with summed up the friendliness of Australians in this one story:

In Australia, you could meet some new people in a pub on a Friday night and be talking about playing rugby. They mention that they are all playing a game of rugby the next day.

Even though you have been talking about it all night, they will not invite you to play the game with them.

In England, if you met some new people in a pub and talked about rugby and they mention that they are having a game of rugby the next morning.
