Are My Stick Figures Sexist? [XIX]
Or… Why I question everything, perhaps too much
And This Is An Honest Question
I tend to go down rabbit holes when it comes to thinking.
When I first started writing articles, stick figures were a good way to draw quickly especially since I now have to draw, edit, and colour 150 of them.
When I was growing up, when I would draw man versus woman as per the header image.
I didn’t want to have a distinction in my artwork, so I just drew a plain stick figure (the ‘male’ version) but I didn’t mean it as a male figure — I wanted a sexless figure.
If I put in the ‘female’ version — wasn’t this stereotyping females as wearing a dress?
I guess the real question here is:
“Is there a representative image for a non-gendered person?”
I truly am looking for advice, is my brainwashed upbringing making me lean one way or the other subconsciously?
