The Neverending Story (TM)

When it comes to personal arguments, I have lost count of the times that I hear the word ‘never’ or ‘always’ e.g.:

  • “you ‘never’ do this”, or, conversely
  • “you ‘always’ do that”

Not wishing to derail the conversation — I do point this out to the other person — (well, at least most of the time) — that this statement usually is not verifiably true.

The fundamental issue with these words is that it encompasses all or none of the behaviourand , that there is emotion creeping into the debate/argument.

Once a person lets the emotion get into their talk, they have lost credibility.

If there is an issue, let’s discuss it, without emotion — else it will just escalate.
