Abortion ballot in Kansas. Voice of the people and good for business. [IX]
Or… Finally, the government asks the people what they want and the people are heard
This Is Big News
On the 3rd of August, Kansas voters overwhelmingly (approximately 58%) voted to protect abortion rights.
This would have been a surprise to the elected officials, they would have only put this up for referendum because they thought it would go their way.
This is a perfect example of where elected officials can be so out of touch with the majority of people in their state.
Republican representatives should take the consolation that as a pro-business political party, Kansas as a state will have an additional revenue-generating business. (this is tongue in cheek — this should never be a reason to allow basic human rights and dignity to everybody).
The US needs more referendums to have the voice of the people heard — and it will not reflect the thoughts and tweets of the elected representatives.
(Update: Eli Lilly — a large pharmaceutical company in Indiana has already fired a shot across the bow)
